paint, polystyrene, play dough , wire, and glue on MDF wood base

For this piece, I wanted to create a sculpture of food - not unlike a monument - highlighting one of the qualities of this essential substance : its diversity. I took inspiration from my French heritage and honed in on the theme of pâtisserie as the type of food. I then selected specific pastries from both French and Middle Eastern culture - because I also have ties to this region and a fascination for its cuisine.
To focus on textures and colors, I used various materials - such as play dough, polystyrene, wire, and paint - and a different color for each miniature sculpture. Then, I wanted the final shape to evoke that of a tree indigenous to certain regions of the Middle East and beyond - such as the Argan Tree native to Morocco. In order to create the tree, I took inspiration from one of Yves Klein’s pieces, which is composed of a rock-like base and a thin metal wire connected to a mass which emulate the form of a tree.
