ink and paint on glass

This piece is a portrait of who I deem is one of the greatest artists and performers alive, Beyonce. I wanted to portray the image of the queen, not as some royal monarch, often depicted with an ostentatious posture and an abundance of accessories, but as a woman who exudes strength, courage, and confidence.
While the concept of queen invites many interpretations, I leaned towards the idea of a queen being born organically. I choose this particular image of Beyonce for its simplicity and symbolism, as well as for its mysterious air that draws the viewer in. Her face is partially hidden by her iconic hat, letting the viewer imagine the intensity her face.
Here, I once again focused on a palette of warm pinks, reds, and oranges for the background - which soften the figure while echoing the idea of power - in combination with light blues and occasional purples that were used to highlight the subject and focus the viewer’s attention - just as the blue in my piece entitled Palette placed an emphasis on that shape.
