Where is Home? (interview), 2019

This project's guidelines were to simply create a 2-4 minute interview centered around a social justice issue. Our group chose to portray the theme of identity as it is related to multiculturalism. Our interviewee is Iranian-American, but she did not grow up in the US, and she has lived in both Iran and Paris. Thus, she has struggled at times with her identity, and knowing where she belongs. We aimed to focus on her individual experience, in order to bring to light a collective conundrum - and one that I myself struggle with. The title Where is Home? echoes feelings of confusion and loss that are connected to this issue.
This was a group project in which I acted as the main producer, therefore I was in charge of both the final editing and overseeing my teammembers’ roles. It was a challenging group project to realize as it was set within a relatively limited set of guidelines, and while most of my team and I got along well, there was a lack of energy and motivation and overall disinterest that made it hard to coordinate and take action. We also had to deal with last minute obstacles, such as the fact that our interviewee was not who we were supposed to interview initially and problems with our audio recording.
